If you’re skilled in at least one academic subject, Tutoring children in your community can make a big difference. In some communities, there just aren’t enough knowledgeable people to help younger students learn. Without a solid education, those children have a more difficult time succeeding later in life. Helping them learn now will help them for the rest of their lives.
You can also benefit from tutoring other students. You’ll feel good because you’re able to make a difference despite your small budget. Tutoring takes little time, so you don’t have to do a major overhaul of your entire schedule.
And teaching others a certain thing will reinforce the concept in your own mind. Even if you’ve been great at basic math for years, a refresher is nice every now and then. Some college students who plan to become teachers after they graduate have the benefit of being exposed to students. This is a great way to both volunteer your time and learn a little about what to expect when you’re being paid to teach younger people.
Many communities have Tutoring organizations or centers. The tutors volunteer for a few hours a week or more, depending on their schedules and how often they’re needed. This type of volunteer work is great for college students. If you don’t have any afternoon classes, you can be available to help students with their homework right after they get out of school for the day. You can also help on weekends if that’s more suited to your own schedule.
But before you can tutor, you have to find students. Your local library might have some information. Be sure to check their community bulletin board or announcements section. You can also call the main line of your local school, as the secretaries and other staff there are usually up to date on what’s happening with students. An Internet search usually leads you in the right direction, so give that a try as well.

How many hours per week should I hire a tutor for?I have dyslexia and am planning to hire a tutor on helping me how to read without guessing the words as I read.
I've never hired a tutor before so I'm not sure how many hours are normal. If you had a tutor before, please let me know how many hours per week do you meet with your tutor. Thanks.

I agree I like this one more probably because the two of them seem more well matched.
First of all you are an adult in these children eyes. Most of your students may need help in basic reading. If they cannot read make sure they know the alphabet and which sounds they make. From there introduce short vowel sounds a – an, ag, at, ap etc. make the sound together and from there add a consonant to the front and work on rhyming words. From there find a book there are some free on line with which the student can practice reading with you. Patience is the key to teaching, and wanting the student to learn. After you have taught all the short vowels go on to blends in words. Remember there are sight words the child just has to know. You can teach them while you are working on the short vowel sounds. I hope this will help you.
From a former special ed and elem. teacher and now a tutor.
I try not to. When I give homework 'answers,' they are usually along the lines of hints to help people think about what they are doing.
Thanks for bringing this up, though.
Yess I Know^^

Your question suggests differences between pedagogy (teaching children) and androgogy (adult ed).
One of the fundamental differences is teaching methodology. Children, by nature of their short time on the planet, lack the background knowledge to connect concepts you are sharing with them to real-life experiences. They, therefore, require more lecture and hands-on (experiential) learning. Once you share a concept, that concept must be demonstrated.
With adults, we can often share a concept or idea–then, once we've talked about common definitions, the students can illustrate it for one another (in a guided discussion or small-group session). Adults tend to be able to grow together as a group with much less teacher/instructor intervention. At that point, you're just a facilitator/guide to their learning processes.

Good for you. Keep up the good work. The more people know the better their lives will be. Education is Power.
I believe what you say about FEAR. They want to keep minorities down. I am a white male who believes we all should have the best education we can deserve.
Congratulation on your success.
It depends, in part, upon the time of the year. Students who go to classroom schools will most commonly have their tutoring late afternoon between 3 PM and 7 PM local time on weekdays. Few want tutored on Friday nights though, because it is heading into the weekend. Saturday mornings, 9 AM to noon local time is also popular. During summer holiday, late morning and early afternoon local time is more common. Homeschooled students could be most anytime depending upon how they set up their schedule.
As you no doubt know, the US has several time zones.
what is jong-man real name?
Woah..
i miss this movie so much!!
its makes me happy!
they require a 2.8 gpa minimum. i had a 2.9- almost 3.0 and i got in, but those are college units. if you have a 2.7 gpa out of high school, i doubt youll get in, considering how easy high school courses are. i think the essay has a lot to do with it… although the year i applied- they accepted more students than they had room for and this was for fall 2008, so now they may be accepting fewer applicants. sorry to say, your gpa may not get you in
uc santa cruz is easier to get into, but one application can apply to 3 uc schools i believe so apply for ucsb and ucsc… and maybe uc riverside. thats an easy one too- dont go for ucla or ucsd for sure. good luck!
I agree
i thought it will be a sequel to the first but really its different story but same concept.

Tutor all you want. I'm white, and I guarantee all the white teachers at my school agree with me. Your post is offensive to all of us who bust our butts every day. Most of my kids are Black and Hispanic. We have one of the highest passing rates on Regents exams in the city, and our college office gets scholarships for every single student of every race. We have the 2nd highest graduation rate in Queens. Our Minority students ARE on the rise. You need to give your own people a little more credit and stop playing victim.
