One of the wonders of online learning is the access to each other that teachers and students across the globe can now enjoy. For teachers seeking online teaching jobs, there are many benefits to be harvested. Any teacher who enjoys a challenge, or doing something different, may find that online tutoring of international students will suit them well. Especially in many developing countries, there is a hunger for knowledge and qualifications: a need that Online Learning is superbly well designed to meet.
What international students want
Opportunities for teaching students from all around the world are abundant, with particular demand in some educational areas. They include:
1. English language teaching. English remains one of the key languages of international commerce, and the demand is perennial. Online tutors who can assist foreign learners with their command of the English language will find many openings. Possibilities include both structured language teaching, including grammar and English literature, and conversational English tutoring online, via video link. China is one country where students are eager to learn English with an online tutor and make the most of the new links between China and western economies.
2. SAT and GRE tutoring and test prep. Many international students, in Africa and China (to name but two) aspire to obtaining places in American and European universities. Online tutoring for aspirant undergraduates (SAT test prep) and postgraduates (GRE or GRE MAT test prep) are both areas that online tutors and educators seeking Online Teaching Jobs can usefully consider.
Skills for teaching international students
Language skills:
Though many international students are well-versed in other languages, online tutors taking on foreign students will have an advantage if they are themselves bilingual or have experience of teaching learners for whom English is a second language. Note also that some learners have a good grasp of spoken English but may use a very different written alphabet. Online tutoring may entail providing extra help with written assignments.
Cultural sensitivity:
Online tutors and educators in search of online teaching jobs don’t need a degree in anthropology but cultural sensitivity is essential. The scope for misunderstanding and even giving offence is magnified and before starting online tutoring of students from different cultures, online tutors would do well to familiarise themselves with the backgrounds of potential students.
The rewards of teaching international students
Many online tutors find teaching international students exceptionally rewarding, both because most are hardworking and eager to learn and because students from other cultures demand that teachers stretch themselves to meet the challenges involved. It is a way for online tutors to learn about other countries and cultures and sometimes results in lifelong friendships. Online tutors of international students can, in their own small way, use education to contribute to building bridges between peoples and nations across the globe.

Help answer the question about tutor
How much should a student tutor charge per hour? How much should a student tutor charge per hour?
I applied to be a math tutor and a lady asked me how much I charged per hour. I told her we would talk more once she committed, as she has two girls in grade 8 and 10.
How much should I charge each hour for tutoring, or is there a better way to price the tutoring service?
(In Canadian Dollars)
Thanks!

Stop for a minute.
There are causes/reasons for these less than satisfactory results and they need to be determined and explored. Is the work too difficult? Is the delivery of the subject matter too fast paced? Are you having trouble understanding what is expected of you in these subjects?
You need to find out where and how you are failing and determine ways to improve your subject outcomes. Ask your teachers for an easier work load – explain to them that you are having difficulty and they should be able to assist you with perhaps an easier delivery (slower paced) or even an easier stream of the same subject.
Having said that; there are Tutors who teach in a wide variety of subjects so there should be one who is able to assist you should you require one. A tutor would certainly be able to offer you one-to-one tuition and guide you through the more difficult aspects of each subject and you may also benefit from a more determined study-load.
'D's are certainly less than favourable but there's room for improvement if you are willing to work smarter and more effectively. Set yourself some study goals and work your way to achieving them. Then set new ones (higher) and get to them. You may surprise yourself – even at 'D' level outcomes; 'A's are not an impossibility.
Go for it! Good luck.
Years ago (from fifth grade to eighth grade) I had a tutor charge 40 dollars and we thought it was affordable… And that was a long time ago.
So 25 – 40 United States dollars is good. That equals 26.93 to 43.08 Canadian dollars.
For two people I would say fifty United States dollars if you wanted. That equals 53.85 Canadian dollars.
I agree I like this one more probably because the two of them seem more well matched.
what is jong-man real name?
Woah..
i miss this movie so much!!
its makes me happy!
Contact your local high school and ask about the National Honor Socitey community service program. My 11 yr old uses one of our high school NHS tutors and it is free to us since the NHS has to have a certain number of C/S hours each year. You will probably have to ask the school which teacher is in charge of this program. If they do not have it at the school you choose, keep looking around the high school though. Lots of high school kids would ike to earn quick money.
Best of Luck
When I was Tutor in college I used to ask for $15 dollars an hour for one-on-one tutor. I wasn't very strict about payment, I asked that much so that they would know my time was valuable. When I did group rates I'd go between $15 to $25 and have the students split the expense between themselves and keep the group less than 8.
I'd say anything less than 5 dollars an hour is insulting, mostly because it says how much his time is worth it to you.
7 dollars says that I'm willing to take advantage of you.
9 dollars says this is really really important to me, but I don't have a lot of money, lets negotiate.
15 dollars says, I have the money and I expect you to be worth every penny.
At least from my perspective.
I agree
i thought it will be a sequel to the first but really its different story but same concept.
If you want to do it properly, go to university for 3 years, get a degree in maths, go on and take a PGCE, and then get a job as a teacher. Alternatively, you could just advertise for pupils, but make sure that you have professional indemnity insurance cover, and an up to date CRB. Just how you would get indemnity cover without the proper professional qualifications is beyond me. Do make sure that you tell your prospective clients that you`re not qualified to do the job. I`m sure they`ll be mightily impressed.
oh yaa! park ki woong!
You could try advertising in the newspaper, but anyone answering the ad may ask what your qualifications are. Universities and colleges sometimes hire "student peer tutors," but they typically choose them from among the students who are enrolled in the programs and getting the highest marks.
If you truly are interested in teaching, why not take courses part-time in the evening or online? Depending on the clientele you are looking for, you can take courses from a teacher's college, or take special education teaching assistant training or adult education instructor training. And since you already have a degree, you may be able to apply to have a "prior learning assessment" at the college or university you choose.
In either case, your first step would be to talk to an employment counsellor or continuing education counsellor at your local college or university.
Good luck
Park Ki Woong I think
Yess I Know^^
Depends on who you talk to, but I generally charge about $20 an hour and I have known other tutors who charge upwards of $30-$35.
Hiring a private tutor for one-on-one tutoring is the best way to go. However, if money is an issue, you can opt for online tutoring instead. Try some online tutoring services like:
1) http://www.tuitionplaza.com/tutoring/ – tutoring by retired teachers and volunteers (free)
2) http://www.tutor.com – tutoring by professional tutors (not free)
3) … and many more (use search engine).
Think ouside the box and you'll have more options! Good luck!
Technically to become a home tutor you need no qualification. But if you hope to have any credibility you should be qualified in the area you wish to tutor in and preferably have some sort of teaching qualification and experience. You will also need to have a criminal record check done. It is preferable if you hold qualified teacher status. Your fees should be what you consider the market will bear excessive = no students not enough = demeaning tutoring. Try to get jobs through an agency they will tell you where you stand on qualifications.
