There are many benefits to private tutoring. Besides the obvious better grades at school example, we’ll list here our top 10 reasons to find your child a private tutor:
- Fewer distractions. In a classroom setting, noise and other interruptions from peer groups can hugely affect your child’s performance. This is especially true if your child suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder. Private one-on-one tutoring is a much more controllable environment, and therefore far less susceptible to interference.
- Choose your tutor. You can choose a tutor that has a style or personality that suits your child, and if it’s not working you can find another one. In a school setting you are pretty much stuck with the teacher you are given and if there is a personality clash with your child there’s not much you can do about it.
- Focus on specific areas. A private tutor is able to focus on specific areas that your child may be having problems with. A school teacher will only be able to give minimal private attention to students as they are constrained by time and tough targets for subject coverage.
- Perspective. A tutor will be able to impart a fresh perspective on the subjects your child is covering. Different methods in teaching and extended knowledge can really give your child the upper hand when it comes to exam time.
- Enthusiasm. If you are using a specialised tutor say for maths tutoring, they are likely to have a passion for their subject. This can be infectious for your child who may pick up the interest and fascination for the subject that the tutor has.
- Catch-up. Sometimes your child may have missed key points in the syllabus that are now holding them back from understanding the more advanced concepts. A classroom based teacher is unable to go back over topics on an individual basis. A private tutor will quickly be able to identify areas that need work and bring your child up to speed. This is especially important if your child has been ill and missed a few lessons.
- Shy children can ask questions. A lot of children may be too shy to ask questions in class and may then miss out on key points in their subjects. Like a large rock in a fast flowing river this can have repercussions for a long time afterwards. They are much more likely to ask questions in a one-on-one environment with their tutor.
- Coverage. A private tutor is able to cover a lot of detail in a short time. They can work at your child’s pace and become very familiar with your child’s capacity for learning and the methods that work best with your child when explaining sometimes advanced concepts to them. Every child is different and a good tutor should be able to identify and adapt to the individual needs and capabilities of the student.
- Help with homework. If your child is struggling with homework the tutor can help! Sometimes they may be asking questions of mum or dad that you just can’t answer. Sometimes at the end of a long day in the office you don’t want to come home from work to 2 hours of homework help! A private tutor can provide the answers your child needs and the tools your child can use to find the answers themselves.
- Handling attention span. Your child may only be able to concentrate for 10 minutes before their mind starts wandering onto other things. This is completely normal and almost completely overlooked in the public schooling system. A private tutor will easily be able to recognise when your child’s attention span is wavering. A minute or two discussing something else or having a biscuit or a glass of water will reset the clock to an extent and your child will be able to get back on track quickly.

My daughter took the Kaplan course for GRE and increased her score 400 points.
Both my older kids took Kaplan for the SAT and got into excellent, highly competitive, colleges.
Every state has specific requirements for licensing teachers. Many of the states have agreements with other states and a license can be gotten simply by applying and showing a license from the other state.
In Ohio, you can tutor if you are a licensed teacher. No other requirements.
Depending on where you are planning to move, you will want to check teacher requirements and see if there is a reciprocal agreement with the state you are currently in. If there is an agreement, you should be okay. If not, contact the state department of education and see what they require for an out-of-state applicant.
Ask the college's guidance department; many times schools will have student tutors for much, much less.
life skills or technology or organization
those are broad (from one to the other)
for the life skills, you're going to have to go back to school (for a master's) and do some social work courses.
for the technology, of course, you will need to at least have mastered a couple of software programs, especially Excel. You don't necessarily have to go back to school for that one, but sometimes, they seek certificates of completion or special Microsoft certificates and stuff like that
but any kind of course like that, you could probably take online
organization, that's just broad but if you've got good leadership skills, you could probably cook anything up. But you already have to be in the school system for that, you can't just come up there and say you wanna start an organization. And the ones who start them are usually teachers.
If you go back to school and get an Administrative degree (master's), you could be a principal. But teaching experience well prepares you for that.
I'll say this, don't do anything you don't wanna do, you may regret it, later. A lot of teachers are teaching because they couldn't do the other things they wanted to do. So if you feel you need some time to do some soul searching, take it.
Better to go in there knowing what you wanna do than to be 50 and ask yourself what you did with your life
besides, you can just risk it, and go try teaching, and if you don't like it, quit.
LOVED IT

I pay a tutor $20 an hour, and I consider that a good deal.
Don't undersell yourself. Although it would be a nice gesture to give someone a first hour for free, when you underprice yourself or give your services away for free, human nature is such that people tend to want more freebies.
I don't think a tutor is what you need if your problems are social problems. Tutors help you with academic problems. Your Mom helping you out is a great idea.
awesome series

I am not aware of any tutor needing to have certification in the field that they are tutoring. Tutoring is not teaching as in a private or public school. As long as you do not say or advertise that you are a "certified Photoshop Instructor" there is nothing, in my mind, that would prevent you from sharing your knowledge with others to improve their understanding and use of the program.
After retirement I spent a number of years "consulting" on the use of a construction estimating program. Was paid good money for my time. However, I never professed to being a certified (insert name of program) instructor or consultant. I simply knew and understood the program and was capable of passing it on to others.
Don't profess to be a professional and consider it a hobby that rewards you monetarily.
Also, you will need to get a full-time job teaching in order to land a visa that will allow you to stay in Taiwan. In other words, you will probably need to teach full-time and tutor in your spare time. Try the pages below for more information.
AWESOME HUN!!
