I am from missouri also, my kids needed a special nudge in some areas of school, so I went to my local schools and especially high schools and found students that were excelling in those areas and had them "tutor" several days a week, cheaper than most of the Sylvan plans, plus they were also on the same level mind wise.
The student made some money, my kids got the help they needed, and it save a lot of hassle and arguing from me and their dad to keep on their homework and lessons. Good luck!
Good for you that you are taking grade 11 maths. I think minimum wage is a bit low. You can make a special rate for a group of students, that way you can make more out of your hour. You can charge a rate like: 20$ for a single student and take two students for 15$each. That way you make more.
A tutor who is not a 14 year old easily takes 40$ per hour if not more, so don't go that much under.

1. Contact ALL the local Elementary and Junior High schools in your area and let them know that you are an experienced tutor with time for additional students (clients).
2. Try to make sure all the current math teachers are aware of your talents (in other words, don't just solicit the front office personnel at the schools, contact the principals and even individual teachers if you can obtain their e-mails or phone numbers).
3. If allowable, post hand bills or "tear-tabs" with your contact information on bulletin boards.
4. If you attend a church, post there, as well.
5. Have your parents spread the word in their workplaces.
6. By all means, "birds of a feather flock together" so your current student may know of others who need turoting, as well.
7. Make an attempt to contact your School District Superintendent's office . . . granted s/he will pass you or your information off to another area, but that gets you a "top down" awareness, as well.

What do you expect with educational policies like "No Child Left Behind" and a teacher's union and school bureaurcracies that cover up for teachers sexually abusing schoolkids? When "creationism" is infecting our schools and children are allowed to drop out or graduate when they can't even read the diplomas? When we spend more time on money on football and cover it on the news–but ignore kids who do well academically or make fun of them for being "geeks" and "nerds?"
