It is also a good idea to really interview the private tutors that you are considering choosing for your children. Have them meet the kids and see how they connect. If they do not seem to like kids then you may not want to choose them after all.

How to report private tutoring income?I'm interested in providing private tutoring services to students in the area. Do I have to file a Schedule C for any amount of income that I earn from tutoring, or is there a minimum amount under which I don't have to worry about it? I only expect to earn a few hundred dollars of tutoring income before the end of the year, although I work full time so the money from tutoring is just a small supplement to my normal income.

Don't undersell yourself. Although it would be a nice gesture to give someone a first hour for free, when you underprice yourself or give your services away for free, human nature is such that people tend to want more freebies.

I have some experience with a class, and I did a few tutoring hours as well. The prep class I took was from Powerscore. The main benefits of a class as opposed to tutoring are that:
A. You get more time with an instructor for less money. However, there are more people in the room and more distractions.
B. You get a lot of structure since there is homework and a regular class schedule.
C. You have access to immedaite help when you are not in class.
D. You meet other people in the same position you are in, and it helps to have friends who can motivate you to study.
I felt that the class pretty much prepared me in all areas, and then I went and got a few hours of tutoring to help hone an area I was having trouble with. If I could do it again, I would do it the same way.
That said, if I was already scoring really high on the LSAT, and I only needed a few hours of tutoring, then that might be enough to put me over the top. If you need a lot of time learning the ideas, though, tutoring gets very expensive very quickly.
You have done very well in school. You have the knowledge but you also need tutoring techniques. Advertise in local supermarkets and it is difficult to say what to charge. Different areas have different prices. I would say between $10 and $20 an hour./
